17th January, 2016
Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC) participated in the 13th edition of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon and we were fortunate to be supported by corporate partner Raheja Universal as well as various runners who ardently ran for our cause.
This year we were once again supported by Avanish Kumar who ran the Full Marathon for AAWC and successfully raised money for every kilometre he ran. Likewise, Aria Parikh ran to raise funds for a career guidance, aptitude and counselling centre for our Udaan beneficiaries. Every year, AAWC is supported by wonderful individuals at the Mumbai Marathon who run not only raise funds but also create awareness about the issue of trafficking and we couldn’t be more grateful.

About Apne Aap Women’s Collective
Founded in 1998, Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC) is an anti-trafficking organization that serves the women and children of Kamathipura, the red light area of Mumbai that is also one of the largest and oldest red light areas in Asia. By providing our members with the tools and resources to create a better quality of life, we seek to empower women who have been trafficked into brothel-based prostitution and to prevent the cycle of intergenerational prostitution among their daughters. Since 1998, we have served more than 2,800 women and children. Our alumni have earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and entered respected professions like accounting, hospitality management, luxury cuisine, nursing, photography, retail, social work, and teaching.
